Fashion TrendFemale Dandy

Fashion Trend – Female Dandy
Masculine style is still a source of inspiration for big fashion designers. And this season makes no exception. It’s time for pants with masculine cut, vests, shirts and jackets. For a more classy outfit don’t forget to accessorize everything with ties, bow ties, brooches and derby shoes. The female dandy trend should always remind us of the 18th century aristocracy. Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli took elements belonging to that period and created outfits that express power and strong attitude, as well as femininity and sensuality.
Dandyism is a movement having its roots in Great Britain. A dandy was a man concerned with his physical appearance and refined language, trying to imitate the aristocratic style although he belonged to the middle-class. The female version of the dandy appeared in the early 1800s. These women were known as Dandyess or Dandizettes until the 20th century, when they became Quaintrelles.
Female dandy is one of the hottest styles this season. It is elegant and glamorous and it’s all about taking chances. To get this look you need courage and creativity. Forget about you dull outfits and try something bolder.
Inspire yourself from the latest collections for spring/summer 2010. High-waisted shorts and high-neck shirts, as well as cropped jackets in Karl Lagerfeld collection, a beautiful interpretation of the dandy female style.
Anna Sui described her collection as being inspired by the circus scenes in Doctor Dolittle. Band hats, cropped jackets with rope epaulettes, embroidered capes and lots of tomboyish looks.
Dolce & Gabbana evoked this season a more stylized version of the dandy style. The silky jodhpurs reminds us of an English gentleman on horseback. With high-necked blouses or cropped jacket and ridding boots or brogues, jodhpurs will give you a very chic look. To complete your dandy outfit don’t forget about fob chains, brooches or pocket handkerchiefs.
Roberto Cavalli presented in his spring/summer RTW collection pants and suit jackets as elements that accentuate the masculine part of a female dandy outfit.
The key elements for a female dandy look are:
Brooches are the best way to express your dandy style. Try choosing one that is a bit larger than most of those specially created for women.
Ties, bow ties, scarves and hats are also a must in order to complete your androgynous look.
Though is rather composed of masculine inspired elements, you have to make sure you feminize your outfit. You can add a waist-cinching belt to emphasize the female shape.
Masculine slicked hair
As for your hair, the masculine slicked-back hairstyles perfectly suit the female dandy trend and it will go great for short haircuts. Using some gel and the fingers, strongly define the line of the part, and wear it as far to the side as is suitable for your face shape. Roberto Cavalli appealed to this dandy hair styles in his spring/summer collection 2010.

Alexander Wang Spring 2010 Collection

Alexander Wang Spring 2010 Collection
Alexander Wang’s fashion show was definitely a hot spot during New York Fashion Week. No wonder, as the designer is hot, and all the celebrities in the front row surely proved it. Anna Wintour, Rachel McAdams, Nina Garcia, DVF, Terry Richardson, Tavi, Jen Brill, and our all time favorite, the Sartorialist, Scott Schumann.
For the approaching spring season, designer Alexander Wang had in mind a certain back-to-school vision. School girls were re-imagined in letter jackets and knee-highs, along with the black-and-mesh look that became his signature over the time.
From soft grays and neutral tones in which the fashion show begun, Wang quickly passed on to his favorite all time color: black. The collection included strong-shouldered sweat shirts, shirts striped in red and white lines, extremely short tight miniskirts, lots and lots of boxy vests and jackets.
The accessories chosen to match the collection were in line with the present common sense of fashion: zippered sandal boots, heels covered in leopard prints and mesh transparent long button-downs, along with lace-up closures.
This heavy-hitter collection was definitely worth to be there, as Wang practically re-invented himself again, as he always does, each line he creates.

It’s Raining Babies!
As you all know, my cousin D is having a baby and a couple of weeks ago, I helped throw a baby shower for her. We decided to have the shower at the Chado Tea Room in Pasadena, CA. The staff at Chado Tea Room were great. So friendly and helpful. Here are a few pics from the shower.
Chado has over 300 varieties of tea. We were lucky enough to try quite a few flavours including White Champagne Raspberry, Chocolate Mint and Ginger Peach. Some of us even bought some to take home!
I bought the favour circle stickers from Michael’s. They came with a printing template which made printing super easy. The ribbon is also from Michael’s.

The ’shower game kit’ was an envelope that came with three games: 1) Baby Scramble (i.e. Jumble with baby words); 2) Dirty Diaper (more on that later); and 3) TV Kids Trivia.

How cute is this floral centrepiece? Love the glass baby block vase. We had two of these at the table.

The afternoon tea menu at Chado is delicious! Sandwiches included smoked chicken with cranberry sauce, cucumber with cream cheese and green onions, and smoked salmon. Each tea rack came with freshly baked scones with fresh cream, fresh berries and jams. Since we had ordered a cake from Vanilla Bake Shop for D, we decided to skip Chado’s usual slice of cake and opted for chocolate dipped strawberries.
After gorging ourselves on the yummy food, we opened up the ’shower game kit’ and got started on the games. The ‘Baby Scramble’ and ‘TV Kids Trivia’ were pretty straightforward. ‘Dirty Diaper’ was probably the most disgusting yet fun game. The night before the shower, the BF and I bought a handful of chocolate bars and melted them in diapers. Yep, super gross. At the shower, each diaper were passed around and the guests had to guess what chocolate bar was melted in the diaper.

After the games, the Vanilla Lemon Berry cake from Vanilla Bake Shop was brought out. All I can say is the cake was 9 inches round of pure heaven.

D elected not to open gifts at the shower since we really didn’t have the space and D didn’t want to subject her guests to an endless barrage of onesies.
However, I had to share a pic of one of the adorable gifts she received. One of D’s friend made her this amazing onesies/socks/shoes tiered ‘cake’ as a gift. Cute non?

D and her guests had such a great time. I highly recommend Chado Tea Room for any type of shower or maybe for a ‘ladies’ luncheon.’
Do you heart afternoon/high tea as much I do?
